The story behind Upper Thames Street
This stretch of Upper Thames Street is one of the grimmer parts the City, full of traffic and fumes. It’s somewhere you pass through, never the destination. I’d spotted this building while doing exactly that. It spans the street, with a tunnel beneath for vehicles, and while the building itself isn’t much to get excited about, this section of the facade really drew me in.
I took this shot mid to late afternoon, with the sun coming from the right. That created just enough shadow to add vertical lines of contrast, at 90 degrees to the dark windows, adding definition to the shapes on the front of the building.
