The story behind the Scalpel
This building is in a part of the City rich with photographic potential. It’s near the Cheesegrater, the Willis Building, Lloyds of London and the Gherkin. With a wide-angle lens, you can get some great shots looking straight up that include multiple buildings, such as my shot of the Scalpel, Willis Building and 25 Fenchurch Avenue.
The Scalpel on its own can be difficult to photograph from certain angles as, like many glass buildings, it reflects the sky so well that it blends right in. The conditions this day were just right for a simple, head-on shot using a longish lens to isolate the building from its surroundings.
